Lakehills here, twenty years on Medina. the lake has been in the single digits all year. Red Cove is dry, the county park ramp ends fifty yards from the water, and the last time i saw a boat out there it was a jon boat somebody dragged in. my 2018 Hurricane SunDeck 201 has been on the trailer since april.
so where are the rest of you Medina people going. Canyon is an hour and it is low too. Travis is two hours. Calaveras is close but it is a power plant lake and i am not sure a deck boat has any business on it. i would like to get the boat wet before the water gets cold. what ramps are actually open right now and worth the drive.

Canyon, as of this weekend: Canyon Lake Marina ramp is open and busy, Cranes Mill is open with a long walk to the courtesy dock, Comal Park ramp is closed and has been most of the year, Potters Creek is open but steep at this level so back down slow and keep the truck in low. i towed three boats in there last week. the lake is low but it is still a big lake, there is plenty of water once you are off the ramp. from Lakehills you are looking at about an hour ten through Boerne and Bulverde.

Lake Corpus Christi is two and a half hours from you so probably not, but the state park ramp at Mathis is open and the lake is usable if low. i mention it because in october the campground is half empty and you can launch and be on the water in five minutes on a saturday, which is not true of Canyon. worth it once as a weekend with a campsite.

Travis is at a level where Mansfield Dam Park ramp is open, Cypress Creek is open, Bob Wentz is open on the lower ramp, and Tom Hughes is closed. it is two hours from Lakehills but it is the most water within two hours and once deer season starts you will have it to yourself on weekends. avoid saturdays in october, the wake boats are still out.
the LCRA and TWDB both post the levels. i use the water data for texas site because it has every reservoir on one map. the TPWD page on tpwd.texas.gov has the ramp locations for the state parks but not the open or closed status, you still have to call the park.

Calaveras question, since you asked. deck boats go on it, i have serviced a few that live there. it is warm year round because of the plant, which is the draw in winter, and it gets rough in a south wind. the CPS ramp has a fee and closes at dark. i would not make it my home lake but for a december day when everything else is cold, it is the one lake in the area where the water is 70 degrees.

took the advice. Canyon out of the marina ramp on the first weekend of deer season, and Travis out of Cypress Creek last weekend. both were nearly empty. the drive is the drive. Potters Creek at Canyon is steep like he said, i backed down in 4 low and it was fine. for anybody checking this later, Medina got a little rain in early november and it did nothing, still single digits. i will be a Canyon boat this winter.
